ABOUT AUTISM

Autism, also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurological variant that affects how people communicate and interact. As a spectrum condition, autism affects people in different ways and people with autism have varying support needs.

 

Roughly 1% of the world’s population is estimated to have autism. In 2021, however, the CDC reported approximately 1 in 44 children in the US is diagnosed with ASD.

 

While the causes of autism are still being researched, evidence suggests a genetic component.

Support BASE

We rely on donations from the community to sustain our services. You can help individuals on the autism spectrum to achieve their full potential. Help us to provide bursaries for summer programming for school aged children with ASD and for autistic youth and adults in need of support around daily living, school/college and work.
